There are a ton of good books out there to read on both Lance Armstrong and the Pacific Crest Trail.  Here are a few of Ryan's recommendations:

The Pacific Crest Trail: A Hiker's Companion by Karen Berger & Daniel R. Smith
 
The Pacific Crest Trail: Volume 1: California by Schaffer, Schifrin, Winnett, and Jenkins*
 
 
*Don't buy these books unless you really want an in-depth look at maps and terrain.  Also, these books have newer versions available so if you do purchase either of them make sure you get the most current edition.
There are many good books out there to read on both of these subjects.  Just go to Amazon and type in either "Lance Armstrong" or "Pacific Crest Trail".
